My name is Alice Ward and I am the owner of Love Dogs. I became a dog groomer as I have always wanted to work with animals, especially dogs. I was brought up on a farm and have been animal nuts since I can remember. We have always kept dogs, and I can't imagine a life without them- they are an important part of my family. I have two young children, and it is wonderful to watch their love for the dogs too, they want to say hello to the dogs that come to the house, and give them a hug and a treat. Any dog that comes to our house is welcomed and treated as a guest.
We have a specially designed cage room that is cool, safe and secure for holding dogs whilst they are waiting to be picked up. Each cage is spacious, has a comfy bed and a bowl of clean water. This elimates all risks of dogs fighting, escaping, getting amourous or messing in our house. You can rest in peace knowing that your dog will be comfortable at all times, having warm bedding in their cage, access to clean water, they will have regular toilet breaks and will be fed and exercised if required.
I care very deeply about the welfare and treatment of all dogs. I won't do anything that would hurt them or cause them unnecessary stress. If they are nervous of being groomed, then we take our time until they are happy. I specialize in working with rescue and nervous dogs, having owned such dogs for years. If you have a nervous or aggressive dog, please specify when booking your appointment so that we can ensure that your dog does not have to meet any other dogs whilst it is here, and that it is coming to a calm and comforting environment. No one can access your dog during their stay except for staff and yourself.
I am fully qualified to City & Guilds Level 3 (professional Dog Grooming), which has given me the knowledge and experience to groom any breed, size, style and type of dog. I intend to take a Canine Psychology course in the near future to help me to understand why certain dogs are nervous - and what I can do to help them.
My husband Dave does the majority of collecting and delivering of dogs. He is extremely experienced in handling all types of dogs, and will ensure their safety and comfort at all times.
Each month Love Dogs Newark support the following charities:
I attend as many dog grooming seminars as I can - they keep me up to date with new techniques and products, and I can learn from the best groomers in Europe. I am also attending my first grooming competition in October and will keep you all updated and posted with pictures after the event!
